Eligibility is narrow and the portal enforces it. Every condition below must be met, not just one or two. Applications with mismatched details are usually returned at the school or nodal officer verification stage.

Who cannot register
- Teachers who hold D.El.Ed, BTC or a diploma route qualification and were appointed on that basis. They are already qualified for the primary level and do not need this course.
- B.Ed holders who are not currently in service as primary teachers.
- Teachers appointed outside the 28 June 2018 to 11 August 2023 window.
- Candidates hoping to use the certificate for a future primary teaching job. NIOS states plainly that this bridge course is not valid for teachers seeking subsequent employment as primary teachers.
How to complete NIOS bridge course registration 2026 online

Step 1. Open the official portal
Go to bridge.nios.ac.in and select Enroll Now. This is the only portal NIOS operates for the bridge programme.
Step 2. Read the instruction pop-up and check eligibility
The portal shows an instruction panel confirming the appointment window and the consequence of non-completion. A Check Eligibility tool lets you enter your date of appointment and confirm B.Ed status before proceeding.
Step 3. Fill the basic details form
Enter your name, parent details, date of birth, mobile number and email exactly as they appear on your B.Ed certificate and appointment letter. Verify the mobile number through the OTP. These credentials become your login.
Step 4. Enter school and service details
Provide the school name, UDISE+ code, state, district and date of appointment. Look the code up on the Know Your School facility or ask your principal. An incorrect code is the most common cause of a rejected application.
Step 5. Upload documents and the self declaration certificate
Upload clear scans of your B.Ed marksheet and certificate, appointment letter, photograph, signature and identity proof. Download the Self Declaration Certificate from the portal, get it signed by your principal, and upload the signed copy.
Step 6. Complete school and nodal officer verification
Your principal verifies the details through the school login. The State or Union Territory nodal officer then makes the final confirmation. Track progress under Check Admission Status.
Step 7. Pay the fee and save your confirmation
Complete payment as prompted, download the confirmation PDF and note your enrolment number. Keep the receipt safely, because your school may ask for it during service verification.
Documents checklist
Personal. Aadhaar or another government photo identity, recent passport size photograph, scanned signature, working mobile number and email.
Academic. B.Ed degree certificate and B.Ed marksheets for all semesters or years.
Service. Appointment letter showing the date of appointment, UDISE+ code of the school, the Self Declaration Certificate signed by the principal, and a recent pay slip or employment certificate where your state asks for it.

Why the Supreme Court made this course compulsory
In Devesh Sharma vs Union of India, decided on 11 August 2023, the Supreme Court held that the NCTE notification permitting B.Ed holders to be appointed as primary teachers could not stand. That left serving teachers appointed between 2018 and 2023 in an uncertain position.
On 8 April 2024, in M.A. Diary No. 4303/2024 arising from Civil Appeal No. 5068 of 2023, the Court directed that a six month bridge course be developed for them. NCTE designed it under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, and NIOS was recognised to deliver it through open and distance learning.
The practical effect is simple. The certificate protects an existing appointment. It does not create a fresh primary teaching qualification for future recruitment, and NIOS says so in plain terms.
Course structure, credits and assessment
The programme carries 500 marks and 20 credits across seven courses. Internal assessment through assignments and project work accounts for half the total, and the term end examination for the other half. Fees

What happens after enrolment
Dashboard access. Once your admission is confirmed, the teacher login opens the study material, course modules, assignment briefs and practical guidelines. For extra revision support you can also use our wider NIOS Study Material across related subjects.
Learning and workshops. The programme guide sets out a mix of self learning, workshop based activities and school based activities carried out in your own classroom.
School based activities. Lesson planning, classroom observation, practice teaching and reflective tasks are done in your school and normally countersigned by the head of the institution.
Assignments and project work. These carry 250 marks and must be submitted within the deadlines announced on the portal. School Experience alone is worth 100 marks.
Term end examination. NIOS conducts the theory examination. All components must be cleared for the certificate to be issued.
Certificate. On successful completion you receive the Six Months Certificate Course (Bridge) in Primary Teacher Education. NIOS requires completion within one year of the course commencing.
Common registration problems and how to fix them
Name or details entered incorrectly. Log in and edit the profile section if the field is still open. If it is locked, write to bridgesupport@nios.ac.in with your enrolment number, identity proof and a screenshot of the error.
UDISE+ code not accepted. Confirm the code through the Know Your School search or with your principal, and check that the district and school category you selected match the record.
Document rejected on upload. Rescan at higher resolution and make sure the whole page including seals and signatures is visible.
Login or password failure. Use Forgot Password and reset through OTP. Portal load is heaviest in the final days of a window, so retry at an off peak hour before escalating.
No response from support. Keep a copy of every email, mark a copy to your State nodal officer, keep your principal informed in writing, and call the NIOS helpline on 9217176201 or 9217176202 between 9:00 AM and 5:30 PM on working days.

Frequently asked questions
Is the NIOS bridge course compulsory or optional?
It is compulsory. Any teacher appointed to Classes I to V on the basis of a B.Ed degree between 28 June 2018 and 11 August 2023 must complete it. NIOS states that failure to finish the course within the timeframe fixed by the concerned education authority will invalidate the appointment. There is no alternative qualification route and no waiver available for teachers who fall inside this appointment window.
What is the last date for registration in the current window?
The reopened window runs from 3 July 2026 to 19 July 2026 on bridge.nios.ac.in. NIOS has stated that eligible in-service primary teachers who did not register earlier should complete registration within this period, and that no request for registration will be entertained once the portal closes. Earlier windows ran from 24 November 2025 and were extended to 30 April 2026 before this reopening.
Can a D.El.Ed or BTC qualified teacher apply?
No. The bridge programme is only for teachers appointed on the strength of a B.Ed degree during the specified period. A teacher holding D.El.Ed, BTC or an equivalent elementary teacher education diploma is already qualified to teach at the primary level and therefore does not fall within the Supreme Court direction. Applying without meeting this condition will result in rejection at verification.
Is the course fully online?
It is delivered through open and distance learning, so the study material, modules and much of the theory component are accessible online. However the programme also includes school based activities such as lesson planning, classroom observation and practice teaching carried out in your own school, plus workshop based activities. The term end examination is conducted by NIOS in the usual offline format.
Will this certificate qualify me for a new primary teacher job?
No. NIOS states clearly that the bridge course will not be valid for teachers seeking subsequent employment as primary teachers. Its purpose is limited to protecting an appointment already made between 28 June 2018 and 11 August 2023. For fresh recruitment to primary posts you would need the qualification prescribed by the recruiting authority at that time.
How long do I have to complete the course after enrolling?
The programme is designed for six months and NIOS requires completion within one year of the course commencing. Your own education department may set a tighter deadline, so check any circular issued by your state or by CBSE if you teach in an affiliated school. Missing the completion deadline carries the same consequence as never registering at all.
My school principal is not available to sign the self declaration. What do I do?
The signed Self Declaration Certificate is a mandatory upload, so the application cannot be completed without it. Download the format from the portal, share it with the head of the institution or the officiating in-charge, and ask for a signed and stamped copy. If the school is between principals, contact your State nodal officer, whose details are listed on the NIOS bridge portal.
