The NIOS Data Entry Operations 229 question paper from the October 2025 examination is reproduced here in full, exactly as candidates saw it in the hall. Every question from Set B is listed, along with the items that appear only in Set A and Set C. Answers are not published on this page. If you want the worked solutions, our team sends the complete solved paper on WhatsApp.
The video below walks through the paper question by question, with the correct options ticked and each answer explained, so students who have already written the exam can check what they attempted and new candidates can see how the questions are actually framed.
What the NIOS Data Entry Operations 229 Question Paper Covered in October 2025
The paper ran to 25 questions across 12 printed pages, carried 40 marks and allowed two hours of writing time. All questions were compulsory, and marks were printed against each question. Section A held the objective block, and Section B held the descriptive block with internal choices on several questions.
A separate 15 minute reading window was given before writing began. The paper was distributed at 2.15 p.m. and candidates were expected to read only, without writing on the answer book, until 2.30 p.m. Question paper code and set letter had to be written on the answer book. Calculators, mobile phones, Bluetooth devices and earphones were not permitted in the hall, and in case of any doubt the English version of a question prevailed.
Marking scheme at a glance
| Question numbers | Type | Marks each | Answer length | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 to 7 | Multiple choice | 1 | Option only | 7 |
| 8 to 10 | Objective with 2 sub-parts of 1 mark each | 2 | As instructed | 6 |
| 11 to 17 | Objective | 1 | As instructed | 7 |
| 18 to 22 | Very short answer | 2 | 30 to 50 words | 10 |
| 23 and 24 | Short answer | 3 | 50 to 80 words | 6 |
| 25 | Long answer | 4 | 80 to 120 words | 4 |
Two points are worth taking seriously. The word ranges are instructions, not suggestions, so a 120 word answer to a 2 mark question wastes time you will want back at the end. And Section B offers internal choice on some questions, so tick the ones you intend to attempt during the reading window rather than deciding mid-paper.
Sets A, B and C
The paper was issued in three sets under question paper code 69/MAY/4 [VERIFY session code against your admit card]. The three sets draw on one question bank. Most items are identical and simply reordered, but each set carries a few questions the others do not. Set B is the set reproduced below and the one covered in the video. The questions exclusive to Set A and Set C are listed separately further down, so you have the whole bank in one place.

Topics the paper leaned on this session
Read the three sets together and the weighting becomes obvious. Roughly a third of the paper sat in MS Word, another large slice in PowerPoint, and Mail Merge alone carried up to nine marks once the Section B choices are counted.
- MS Word. Indentation methods, the Columns feature, automatic page breaks, triple click to select a paragraph, font families, font size measured in points, the tab that inserts page numbers, Shift with the arrow keys for highlighting, the Delete key, the paste shortcut, Format Painter, Select All and Ctrl+Z.
- MS Excel. Surface charts and when to use them, tick marks and chart scaling, the MIN function, AutoFit, charts as a visual presentation of worksheet data, the date format tab and building a data source from a worksheet.
- MS PowerPoint. Installed templates and the Design menu, hiding and reordering slides, the view used for adding notes, change case options, the Print What options of Slides, Handouts and Notes Page, numbered lists inside a text box, Title Only against Title Slide layouts, and Save as webpage.
- Mail Merge. The purpose of the main document, the purpose of the data source, envelopes, and the full four mark question on what mail merge is and where it is used.
- Computer fundamentals. The ALU, peripheral devices, the touch screen as an input device, programs stored in ROM, assembler against compiler, categories of computer languages, customized packages, program against software, optical scanners with bar code readers and OCR, plotter against printer, and mouse against track ball.
How to use this paper before your next attempt
A question paper is only useful if you work it like the real thing. Print or open Set B, sit with a two hour timer, and write the answers cold before you look at anything else. The gap between what you could recall and what you thought you knew is the syllabus you actually have left to cover.
Then go back to the paper and mark every question by type. The one mark objectives reward flat recall of shortcuts, function names and menu locations, so those belong on a revision card. The 2 mark questions reward a tight definition plus one distinguishing point, nothing more. The 3 and 4 mark questions reward structure, so answer them in labelled parts rather than a paragraph.
Do the same across Set A and Set C using the lists above. Once you can answer the whole bank without hesitating, the reading window in the hall becomes what it is meant to be, which is 15 minutes to pick your internal choices and plan the order you will attempt in.
Practise the internal choice questions on both sides. Candidates who prepare only one branch of a choice question lose marks when the branch they revised is the harder one on the day.

Frequently asked questions
How many questions were in the Data Entry Operations 229 paper?
There were 25 questions in all, printed across 12 pages, and every one of them was compulsory. Section A held questions 1 to 17, made up of seven multiple choice questions and ten objective questions. Section B held questions 18 to 25, made up of very short, short and long answer questions. The paper carried 40 marks and allowed two hours of writing time.
What is the marking scheme for Data Entry Operations 229?
Questions 1 to 7 carry one mark each and questions 8 to 10 carry two marks each with two sub-parts of one mark. Questions 11 to 17 carry one mark each. In Section B, questions 18 to 22 carry two marks each answered in 30 to 50 words, questions 23 and 24 carry three marks each in 50 to 80 words, and question 25 carries four marks in 80 to 120 words.
Are Set A, Set B and Set C different papers?
They are three versions of one paper drawn from a single question bank. Most questions are shared and simply reordered between sets, but each set also carries a handful of questions the others do not. That is why this page lists Set B in full and then adds the items exclusive to Set A and Set C, so you can revise the entire bank rather than one third of it.
Were there internal choices in the paper?
Yes. Section B offered internal choice on several questions, and candidates were instructed to attempt only one of the given alternatives in such questions. In Set B the choices appeared at question 18, question 20, question 24 and question 25. Use the 15 minute reading window to tick the branch you intend to write, because deciding halfway through an answer costs time you will not get back.
Where can I get the solved answers for this paper?
The solved paper is sent by our team on WhatsApp rather than published on this page. Message the NIOS desk at 9654279279 or 9899436384, mention Data Entry Operations 229 and the session you need, and the team will confirm what is available. Previous year papers, terminal and intext questions, notes and objective practice for the subject can be requested in the same message.
Is Data Entry Operations 229 a practical subject as well?
The 229 course carries a practical component alongside the theory paper, and the question paper reproduced on this page is the theory examination only. Practical work is assessed separately at your study centre. Check your admit card and the NIOS date sheet for your practical schedule, since practical dates are notified by the centre and do not follow the theory timetable.
